Letter From the Chair
Our city has a rich and storied history of innovation and entrepreneurship. Building on this spirit is essential to ensuring the ongoing economic strength of the region.
To harness this spirit and foster economic growth in the region, the Oklahoma Innovation Institute was established. It provides programs that facilitate the growth of collaborative research and development, entrepreneurship, company creation and retention, life-long learning and creative, future-oriented thinking in areas critical to a vibrant region. These objectives are driven by private sector, government and philanthropic partnerships.
We are pleased to announce the A.R. and Mary Louise Tandy Community Supercomputing Center which will house one of the nation’s most advanced community supercomputers for collaborative research and development. This Center represents an historic, collaborative, multidisciplinary research partnership formed by the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma University-Tulsa, Oklahoma State University-Tulsa and Tulsa Community College. The Institute’s focus is to support the transfer of research and technology to emerging growth companies leading to the creation of high impact jobs in the region.
When fully developed, the Institute and affiliated organizations will have regional goals of attracting $100 million in federal grants, support 120 patent applications, providing 40 commercial opportunities (license and start-ups), serving 200 growth companies of all stages, impacting the job growth and retention of 10,000-15,000 jobs, attracting $200 million of capital to the region and supporting strong collaboration of more than 50 scientists across a number of research institutions. Tulsa is capable of shaping its own best future through the efforts of a creative, energetic, diverse and highly motivated citizen base. Thanks to the efforts of more than 250 citizens, we are well on our way to make Tulsa a national leader in innovative thinking and action.
Sincerely,
Barry Davis
